Activity 1: Meat and Three Veg

In the 1950s, things settled down in New Zealand. There were no international wars or intense, national conflicts. Many kiwis were able to settle down, get married, buy a home and start a family.

Activity 1: Meat and Three Veg
dinner (2).jpg
It was common for women in the 1950s to stay home with their children and raise their family. They were called ‘housewives.’ Many housewives followed a simple rule when they prepared the evening meal: the ‘meat and three veg’ rule. This meant that they prepared dinners that included three different vegetables and a type of meat (eg. beef, lamb, or chicken).

On your blog tell us if you think that the ‘meat and three veg’ rule is a good one. Do you like the rule? Would you enjoy eating a typical 1950s dinner? Why or why not?

meat and vegeabels will be so healthy for dinner lunch breaky and also for a nice cool snack for your lunch i always love the way that she makes her famouse pies but it has alot of healthy things in it a lot of energy and a lot of morning power to start the day today. there is alot of healthy vegetabels and there are also some people who like to eat these kind of vegetabels and it is John Susan David Margaret Jennifer Peter they love cause it helps you to have a good time to start the day off like brockly carrot potato letters and many othere vegetables that you will love to eat try them out it makes you smile and it makes you smarter by Precious.

SUMMER LERNING JOURNY Bonus Activity

In the mid-1930s, things began to change for the better in New Zealand. More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, bought treats or gifts for one another.

Imagine that you were able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930s. What special gifts or treats would you like to bring with you? I would likely bring blocks of Whittaker’s chocolate, bags of Jet Planes and Pineapple Lumps, healthy food snacks, clothing, and games for the children. What about you? Bonus Activity: Paying it Forward

Having to eat chaoclate like whittaker's and pineappel lums is so yumm and it is also filled with lots of healthy things like healthy yummy mint in the green packet of GHANA PEPPERMINT and also the yummy dark ALMOUND block of chocalate eating all of these yummy things can be so yumm but it can be also really really healthy
mostly a new block of choclate that came up along time ago can still be really yummy delicious and filled with healthy and really good things. And it can also look yumm and sound yummy and mostly tasted yummy SOOOOOOO yummy i mean try these choclates one day and you might even like it to.

The Right to Vote

Activity 2: The Right to Vote
At the turn of the century, New Zealand elected its first ever government. Richard John Seddon served as the leader of the Liberal Party from 1893-1906. Prior to 1893, only men were legally allowed to vote. This all changed in the late 1800s when a woman named Kate Sheppard lead a suffragist movement in New Zealand calling for a change in law. Her hard work finally paid off when the Electoral Act was passed into law on 19 September 1893, giving women the right to vote. New Zealand was the first country to give all women the right to vote. There were still countries in the world (e.g. Saudi Arabia) who, until recently, did not allow women to vote.
Bonus Activity: In Flanders Fields

As the new century dawned, New Zealanders settled into a period of relative calm. The calm lasted for about 15 years but came to a sudden end in 1914 when World War I erupted in Europe. The war lasted for almost five years and claimed the lives of 18,000 New Zealanders.

It also claimed the lives of thousands of men and women from countries around the world. Every year, we remember these brave men and women on ANZAC Day (25 April). Many people go to a special Anzac Day ceremony where they read a special poem that was written for the fallen soldiers. The poem is called ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae.

Read the poem. On your blog, tell us what you think of the poem. Do you like it? How does it make you feel?

It makes me feel very lucky to live in a beautiful, safe country like New Zealand. It also makes me feel sad for those who died in the war and for their families. I think that we are very lucky that they went to war and fought for our freedom. What do you think?

New Zealand is on lucky place to be in and i am in that place it is a good place but we also never forget about our soldiersa that went in war for us to take out some really bad people thats why we have some  poppies so the people how died for us in the war we will never ever forget but the important thing to do is to vote the right and good answer so if i had to vote i will alway choose the good and best answer.......
that poem made me feel like on good person and it made me want to keep on reambering those people who went in war for us and it made me feel happy and proud of them,.
